Book Clubs

This is a legacy program that has been discontinued. If you are interested in volunteering to run this, please email professionaldevelopment@acelfl.com

The ACEL Professional Development Committee offers the busy professional help in the workplace or in finding a better career. This event will occasionally coincide with professional development events, but its intent is to meet the growing needs of our entire membership.

Every two months we will discuss a new book that we hope will make you ready for the job you want – not necessarily the one you have right now.

In some professions, you are required to keep current through continuing education courses. In others, you can gain a new accreditation by taking a course or attending a seminar. In both cases, the goal is the same: to continue the job of learning.

Past book clubs have covered works like:

  • The Checklist Manifesto by Dr. Atul Gawande
  • This Will Make You Smarter
  • Lean In by Sheryl Sandberg

Meetings are facilitated by ACEL and focus on selections from the book of choice. We announce the date and book on Facebook and upload any materials we need to here. You can submit selections, recommendations, or get answers to any other questions by emailing the professional development chair. Will we see you at the next one?
